Vincent Davis Sr., a 43-year-old African American man from Chicago, IL, was fatally shot on July 25, 2016. He was sitting in the front passenger seat of a car in the 6600 block of South Michigan Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood when he was attacked. The assailant, later identified as 19-year-old Devontay Murray, approached the vehicle and opened fire, hitting Davis five times and a 22-year-old woman in the car three times.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was critically injured and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled Davis's death a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses, including a person in the back seat of the car, identified Murray as the shooter. Murray was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. He was taken into custody from the Illinois Department of Corrections, where he was serving time for an unrelated robbery conviction. Murray's next court date was set for January 3, 2017.
