On the evening of January 21, 2017, during the rush hour at approximately 6:34 p.m., Boston police officers were called to the area of 56 Nightingale Street in the Dorchester neighborhood. Upon their arrival, they discovered a young man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 27-year-old Jovani Devon Jeudy, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
He was Boston's second homicide victim of that year.
The investigation into the shooting began immediately, but authorities made no immediate arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. In the days following his death, family and friends mourned the loss of Jovani, who left behind his parents, Jean Jeudy and Daphne Firmin, a twin brother, another brother, and a sister. His family held a visitation and funeral Mass for him in early February 2017.
To date, the case remains unsolved. The Boston Police Department continues to list Jovani Jeudy's death as an unsolved homicide. Detectives from the Homicide Unit are still actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have encouraged community members to come forward with any information they might have, allowing for anonymous tips through their CrimeStoppers Tip Line.
