In the winter of 2007, a promising young Black / African American recording artist named Tazmyn Soares had his life cut tragically short at the age of 17. On the evening of December 21, Boston Police responded to a report of a person shot at 68 Cedar Street in the Roxbury neighborhood. There they found Soares, who was pronounced deceased. The cause of his death was determined to be a homicide.
Born in Fall River, Soares had spent his life in New Bedford and Dorchester and was known for his involvement in the music industry.
The sudden and violent death of the teenager left his family and community in mourning. He was survived by his parents and several siblings. In the years following his death, friends and family would gather to remember the young man, whose life was taken just as he was embarking on a career in music.
