Jaylen Hayes, a 19-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on December 20, 2016, in Calumet City, Illinois. The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Burnham Avenue, close to his residence. Emergency crews found Hayes with multiple gunshot wounds inside a home on the same block where he lived. He was transported to Franciscan Health in Hammond, Indiana, where he was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m. His death was ruled a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds.
