David Gorski, a 30-year-old Caucasian male from Libertyville, IL, passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2016. He was born on July 31, 1986, in Evanston, IL, to James "Jay" and Dolores Gorski. David was known for his soft-spoken, kindhearted, and genuine nature. He had a vast circle of friends and teammates who spoke highly of his character. David was an avid softball player and a fan of the Chicago White Sox and the Blackhawks.
He was a graduate of Marian Central Catholic High School, McHenry County College, Northern Illinois University, and the Illinois Center for Broadcasting. At the time of his death, he was employed by Medline Industries in Mundelein, IL.
David Gorski's death was the result of a tragic murder. On December 23, 2016, Kenneth Seplak, a 40-year-old man from Round Lake Beach, IL, followed a woman he had been stalking to a movie theater near Vernon Hills. The woman was on a date with David Gorski. Seplak, enraged by the situation, drove back to his home to retrieve a revolver and returned to the movie theater. He waited for the pair and then followed Gorski in his vehicle. While the two vehicles were moving side-by-side, Seplak shot Gorski in the chest. Gorski was found slumped over the wheel on Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Kenneth Seplak was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. During his trial, prosecutors presented evidence, including text messages sent by Seplak to the woman he had been stalking. The jury found Seplak guilty of first-degree murder, and he was sentenced to 78 years in prison. This sentence included 53 years for first-degree murder and an additional 25 years for using a firearm to commit the crime. Seplak is ineligible for parole during his 78-year sentence.
