Simmie McGruder, a 25-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on January 3, 2017, in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago. The incident occurred around 11:13 p.m. when officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 3200 block of West Lexington. Upon arrival, they found Simmie McGruder and his younger brother, Simmieon McGruder, lying in the street.
