Jeffrey Eugene Morfey, a 55-year-old resident of Mansfield, Illinois, tragically passed away on October 3, 2017. Jeffrey was born on January 21, 1962, and served in the Air Force from 1984 to 1988. He was a long-time employee at Home Depot and enjoyed antiquing, landscaping, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR. Jeffrey was known for his happy-go-lucky nature and selflessness.
Jeffrey's death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He was found in his car by a family friend who was helping in the search. Jeffrey had been reported missing since Thursday morning, and his last known communication was a call to his workplace informing them he was taking a sick day. This was considered uncharacteristic of him, as he rarely missed work. His family and coworkers became concerned when he didn't show up for work and couldn't be reached.
The Piatt County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation into Jeffrey's death. They searched his home and sent his computer to a forensic lab for further analysis. However, no suspects were identified, and no arrests were made in connection with his death. The investigation concluded that Jeffrey's death was a result of suicide.
Jeffrey is survived by his children, Lydia and Jacob, and his grandchildren, Luca, Taylor, and Jax. He also left behind his siblings, Bob, Todd, Chad, and Tish, as well as his special friend, Deana Quinn, and his beloved dog, Dulce. Jeffrey's funeral was held on October 7, 2017, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home in Mansfield, with military rites accorded.
