Ricky Smith, a 31-year-old African American man from DeKalb, Illinois, tragically lost his life on February 23, 2018, in Rockford, Illinois. The incident occurred in the parking lot of CherryVale Mall, where Smith was shot while driving his vehicle. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a light pole on South Mall Drive. When police arrived at the scene, they found Smith inside the vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, Smith succumbed to his injuries.
