Isaiah Starks, a 27-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on October 5, 2017, in Rockford, Illinois. Born on April 5, 1990, in Maywood, Illinois, Isaiah had moved to Rockford in 1998 and was a graduate of Auburn High School. On the day of his death, Isaiah was involved in a heated argument with Marcus Spates, who was parked in his SUV outside Isaiah's house.
The confrontation escalated, and they were soon joined by Jamie Spates, Marcus's brother, who lived across the street from Isaiah. The argument turned violent, leading to a physical altercation in the street. During the fight, at least two shots were fired, resulting in Isaiah being shot in the abdomen. He succumbed to his injuries later that day.
Following the incident, Jamie Spates called 911, admitting that he thought he had shot someone and inquiring about where to turn himself in.
