Sean Michael Anderson, a 27-year-old male from Rockford, Illinois, tragically lost his life on April 7, 2018. Anderson was one of three victims fatally shot aboard a privately hired "limousine-style coach" party bus. The incident occurred in the area of Auburn Street and North Johnston Avenue. The other victims were Daijon Sistrunk, 22, and Martavies Blake, 21, both also from Rockford.
The suspect, Raheem King, was armed with an assault rifle and opened fire on the bus, resulting in the deaths of the three men.
Following the shooting, an arrest warrant was issued for Raheem King by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office on suspicion of four counts of first-degree murder. King was considered armed and dangerous at the time. The investigation revealed that the party bus was initially headed to a casino in Elgin but returned to Rockford after King received a call from his girlfriend, reporting that their house had been robbed at gunpoint by two masked men. Upon returning to Rockford, King armed himself with a rifle and a handgun, then ordered the bus driver to stop at his house. After checking on his girlfriend, King reboarded the bus and opened fire on the passengers.
During the trial, King was found guilty of first-degree murder for the deaths of Anderson, Sistrunk, and Blake. He was also convicted of armed robbery, aggravated vehicular hijacking, and aggravated unlawful restraint. The defense argued that King acted in self-defense, believing the three men were involved in the home invasion and planned to rob him on the bus. However, the judge ruled that the murders were acts of retribution, not self-defense. King now faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
