Stephen Shapiro, a 71-year-old white male, was tragically killed on August 13, 2018, in Winnetka, Illinois. Shapiro, a prominent attorney known for arguing numerous cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, was shot multiple times by his brother-in-law, John Gately III. The incident occurred at Shapiro's Northfield home, where Gately arrived uninvited, demanding to see his sister, Joan Shapiro. When Stephen Shapiro refused him entry, Gately opened fire, fatally shooting Shapiro in the chest.
