On the evening of October 30, 2018, 27-year-old Trevonte D. Kirkwood, an African American male from Bloomington, Illinois, was fatally shot in the 1300 block of North Oak Street. According to reports, Kirkwood had planned a quiet evening with his girlfriend and friends. After experiencing car trouble, he decided to take a walk to alleviate his frustration. During this walk, he was approached and shot multiple times. Neighbors reported hearing three gunshots near West Seminary and Union streets.
