Latino male Luis Angel Aguilar, age 27, was shot to death in Chicago on the night of February 14, 2019.
He and another man, 26, were sitting in a parked car in the 6500 block of North Albany Avenue in West Rogers Park when shots rang out around 11:30 p.m.
Witnesses told police they saw a black Toyota RAV4 speeding away from the scene. Aguilar was struck in the head; the second man was hit in the face.
First responders and the Cook County medical examiner confirmed that Luis Angel Aguilar, age 27, was pronounced dead at 11:52 p.m.
An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and the case was ruled a homicide.
The wounded 26-year-old was taken in serious condition to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. Aguilar lived in the nearby Rogers Park neighborhood.
Family and friends would later remember Luis Angel Aguilar, age 27, as a hardworking young father from Rogers Park, known affectionately as “Pichu.” A memorial fundraiser described him as a devoted dad and a one-of-a-kind friend, grieving a loss that came without warning on Valentine's Day.
The date and place of his death are also recorded by the National Gun Violence Memorial.
In the immediate aftermath, police said no one was in custody and did not announce arrests tied to the killing.
Detectives from Area North opened the investigation, and early reports centered on the witness account of the black Toyota RAV4 fleeing the block after the shots.
Public reporting at the time named no suspects, and authorities did not release information about an arrest connected to the case in those initial days.
