Raymond Eugene Davis, a 59-year-old man from Springfield, Illinois, tragically passed away on August 21, 2019. He was born on August 8, 1960, in San Bernardino, California, and was known for his love of NASCAR and his work as a pit crew member for Justin Allgaier. Davis was also employed by Elite Autobody. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and several siblings.
On the day of his death, Davis was riding his bicycle near East Laurel and South Wirt in Springfield when he was shot by Keyon O. Klein, a 24-year-old man. The Sangamon County State's Attorney charged Klein with two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Klein allegedly fired a Smith & Wesson .22 long rifle, striking Davis and a residence on East Spruce in Springfield. Klein faces 45 years to life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder and 4-15 years for the aggravated discharge of a firearm charge.
The investigation into Davis's death revealed that he was pronounced dead at St. John's Hospital after being found near the intersection of South Wirt Avenue and East Cedar Street. An autopsy confirmed that Davis's cause of death was a gunshot wound, consistent with a homicide. Klein was arrested and held on a $2 million bond in the Sangamon County Jail.
