Vashon Simmons, a 44-year-old African American man from Matteson, Illinois, was tragically shot and killed on February 22, 2020, in Washington Park, Chicago. According to reports, Simmons was sitting in a parked vehicle just before 8 p.m. when an unknown assailant approached and fired multiple shots at him. He was struck in the torso and forearm. Despite being rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Simmons succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead early the next day.
