Demetrius Tucker, a 25-year-old Black male from East Moline, IL, tragically lost his life on March 16, 2020. The incident occurred in the 1000 block of 51st Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when East Moline Police responded to a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found Demetrius Tucker suffering from gunshot injuries in the street. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The suspect or suspects had fled the scene before the police arrived, initiating a thorough investigation into the homicide.
The investigation led to the identification of Lamont Williams, a 25-year-old male from Rock Island, as a suspect in the murder of Demetrius Tucker. Williams was initially charged with first-degree murder. On April 10, 2022, he waived his right to a jury trial and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. This plea came after a pre-sentence investigation was ordered, and his sentencing was scheduled for June 6, 2022. Williams was arrested in April 2020 by the U.S. Marshals in Rock Island on an active arrest warrant for first-degree murder. His bond was set at $2 million, with 10 percent applicable, and he was held in the Rock Island County Jail.
The case of Demetrius Tucker's murder involved significant law enforcement efforts, including a high-risk search warrant executed by the Moline Police Department, assisted by the East Moline Police Department, Illinois State Police, and the Quad Cities Federal Gang Force Task. Armored vehicles were provided by the Rock Island Sheriff’s Office and the Bettendorf Police Department to ensure the safety of the officers involved. Despite these efforts, Williams was not located during the initial search but was later apprehended.
