Christopher F. "Chris" Bivens, affectionately known as "Handz," was born on September 17, 1984, in Moline, Illinois, to Alfred and Theresa Bivens. He spent his formative years in East Moline, where he met his fiancée, Mariah Huston. Together, they built a family, welcoming two children: Makinlee Schilynn Bivens and Cayson John Michael Bivens. Chris was employed as a machine operator at Tank Holding, where he was recognized for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Known for his infectious smile and storytelling ability, Chris formed connections with people wherever he went. He had a passion for tattoos and often created drawings for his loved ones. At home, he cherished moments building forts with his children and walking the family dogs. His interests included listening to music, playing video games, working out, and spending time in his man cave. Family and friends remember him as a protector and provider, always prioritizing making memories with those he cared about.
Tragically, on March 26, 2023, at the age of 38, Chris's life was cut short due to a shooting incident in East Moline. Officers responded to reports of shots fired and found Chris wounded outside a residence. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Zaccheus N. Hayes, was apprehended after an hours-long standoff and charged with first-degree murder.
Chris is survived by his fiancée, Mariah; their children, Makinlee and Cayson; his parents; his brother, Jothanial Santilli; grandparents, Jim and Sandy Bivens; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, grandparents Betty and LeRoy Scott, uncles Larry and Bobby Scott, cousin Jason Scott, and childhood friend John Huston Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to a memorial fund established for his children.
