Jwan Jermel Lee Lynn, an 18-year-old African American male, was tragically murdered on April 9, 2020, in South Beloit, Illinois. His body was discovered on April 14, 2020, in the 1600 block of Royce Avenue in Beloit, Wisconsin. An autopsy conducted by the Rock County Coroner’s Office revealed that Jwan died from multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation, led by the Beloit Police Department and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, determined that the homicide occurred in the 1500 block of
Fischer Road in South Beloit.
Davonte L. Hyler, a 28-year-old male from Beloit, Wisconsin, was identified as the primary suspect in Jwan's murder. Hyler was charged with six counts of first-degree murder. On July 1, 2020, while in custody at the Rock County Jail, Hyler was served a warrant for these charges. The investigation revealed that Jwan was the only intended victim.
Hyler had a history of criminal activity, including charges for burglary, aggravated battery, and fleeing officers in 2010. He was also found guilty of battery, repeater, and domestic abuse on April 17, 2020, and criminal damage to property on May 5, 2020. The possession of a firearm by a felon charge was dismissed on April 20, 2020. Hyler was extradited to Winnebago County, Illinois, to face the murder charges.
On May 22, 2023, Hyler was sentenced to 68 years in prison for the murder of Jwan Jermel Lee Lynn. The court proceedings took place in Winnebago County, Illinois. The tragic loss of Jwan has left a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community.
