Derrick Mitchell, a 35-year-old African American man from Chicago, Illinois, was tragically killed on May 26, 2020, in Humboldt Park. Mitchell was fatally shot in the chest while inside his apartment, and a 23-year-old woman who was with him was grazed in the leg. The incident was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner's office.
