Martell Thomas, a 30-year-old African American man, was fatally shot on July 6, 2020, in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, IL. The incident occurred around 11:10 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Douglas Boulevard. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Martell Thomas unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The Cook County medical examiner's office later confirmed his identity.
In addition to Martell Thomas, two other individuals were injured in the same shooting. A 27-year-old woman, who was struck in the head, was reported to be in serious condition, while a 24-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder and was in good condition. Both victims walked into Mt. Sinai Hospital for treatment. However, the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear as the two survivors refused to cooperate with the police.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects identified in connection with the murder of Martell Thomas. The investigation is ongoing, but the lack of cooperation from the surviving victims has hindered progress. The Chicago Police Department continues to seek information from the public to help solve the case.
