Upon arrival near the number 10 building, officers discovered 30-year-old Terrill D. Mason, a resident of the complex, who had been fatally shot while standing outside. Terrill D. Mason, an African American male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the days surrounding Mason's death, East St.
Louis experienced a surge in violence, with four homicides occurring between July 9 and July 12, 2020. Authorities have stated that these incidents, including the fatal shooting of 30-year-old African American male Terrill D. Mason, appear to be unrelated and are being investigated as separate cases.
The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation, Zone 6, in collaboration with the East St. Louis Police Department, is actively investigating these homicides.
