On the evening of July 12, 2020, at approximately 9:15 p.m., East St. Louis police responded to a shooting incident at the Samuel Gompers Housing Complex, located at 450 North 6th Street. Upon arrival near the number 10 building, officers discovered 30-year-old Terrill D. Mason, a resident of the complex, who had been fatally shot while standing outside. Terrill D. Mason, an African American male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
