The footage showed Johnson getting out of his car, pointing a handgun at the Uber, and firing multiple shots, one of which struck Cody in the head. Johnson then calmly walked back to his residence.
Leonard Johnson was arrested on January 30, 2021, and charged with first-degree murder. He appeared in court and was ordered held without bail. Johnson had a history of flashing gang signs and had admitted to being a member of the Latin Kings during previous arrests. He also possessed a valid firearm owner's identification card and had purchased two 9 mm semi-automatic handguns. The investigation into Cody's death was conducted by Area Five detectives, who used surveillance footage and other evidence to build their case against Johnson.
