Ivan Perez-Garcia, a 25-year-old Hispanic male from Romeoville, IL, was tragically killed on October 25, 2020. The incident occurred in Joliet's St. Patrick's Neighborhood, where Perez-Garcia was shot while sitting in his parked car on Seeser Street. The shooting happened around midnight, and Perez-Garcia was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center.
The investigation revealed that as Perez-Garcia sat in his vehicle, an unknown suspect
approached from a nearby vehicle, displayed a handgun, and began firing into the car, striking Perez-Garcia multiple times. The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s, approximately 5-foot-5, with a medium build, clean-shaven, and with buzzed dark hair. He was wearing a gray full-zipped hoodie at the time of the shooting.
Four days after the murder, Joliet police arrested 41-year-old Jorge Rosas, a resident of Joliet, on multiple counts of murder. Rosas was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. The arrest was made after detectives identified Rosas as the prime suspect and the Will County State's Attorney's Office approved the charges. A warrant for Rosas's arrest was issued with a $5 million bond.
Joliet Police Chief Al Roechner expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Ivan Perez-Garcia, emphasizing the senseless nature of the violence. He also praised the efforts of the officers and detectives who worked diligently to secure the arrest warrant and thanked the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for their vital role in processing evidence.
