Daniel Zetina, a 20-year-old male, was sitting in a parked vehicle on the 7400 block of North Oakley Avenue in Chicago's West Rogers Park neighborhood around 5:30 p.m. on November 7, 2020, when someone approached and opened fire. He was struck multiple times, including the flank and arm, and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he died. The Cook County medical examiner identified him and ruled the death a homicide.
Detectives from Chicago Police Department's Area Three began investigating, and witnesses described the assailant fleeing in a white sedan. As of the initial reports, no one was in custody and authorities had not announced an arrest or identified a suspect.
In the days that followed, neighbors and local faith leaders gathered to mourn and to reclaim the block in a prayer service for peace, a small act of solidarity in the place where the shooting took his life.
