Marek Mark Krywko, a 59-year-old male resident of Hanover Park, IL, tragically lost his life on August 2, 2021. The incident occurred at a residence on Pebblebeach Drive, where Hanover Park police responded to a disturbance call. Upon arrival, officers discovered two gunshot victims. Marek Krywko had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his femoral artery, leading to his death. Another victim, a female, suffered a less severe gunshot wound to her thigh.
The investigation revealed that Richard Goodwin, a 59-year-old male from Glendale Heights, IL, was responsible for the shooting. Goodwin, along with two women, had visited Krywko's residence to purchase marijuana. The situation escalated when Goodwin shot the female victim as she handed him a bottle of water, and then turned the gun on Krywko before fleeing the scene. Goodwin was apprehended later that month without incident at his home and has been in custody since his arrest.
The case proceeded to trial, where a DuPage County jury found Richard Goodwin guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated battery. The trial lasted four days, and the jury reached their verdict after approximately sixteen hours of deliberation. State’s Attorney Robert Berlin expressed relief and gratitude following the verdict, emphasizing the closure it might bring to Krywko’s friends and family. Goodwin's next court appearance is scheduled for March 4, 2025, for post-trial motions and the return of the pre-sentence report.
