On a cold evening in Baltimore, the life of 15-year-old Mayresa Craft, a Black female, was tragically cut short. On January 4, 2009, she and a 16-year-old male friend, Trevane Ricks, were inside an apartment building in the 5600 block of Loch Raven Boulevard when gunfire erupted. The incident, which unfolded around 7:50 p.m., left both teenagers with fatal injuries in what police would investigate as a double homicide.
Emergency services were called to the scene where they found Mayresa
suffering from a gunshot wound to her side and Trevane with a gunshot wound to the chest. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Trevane Ricks was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Mayresa Craft succumbed to her injuries later that evening, at 10:57 p.m.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Baltimore police launched an investigation into the deaths of the two teenagers. Detectives canvassed the neighborhood, seeking to piece together the events that led to the violent encounter.
