On June 11, 2022, 24 year old male Sean A. Johnson was discovered shot to death during a late morning police response to a home in the 4100 block of Brady Avenue in Cahokia Heights, Illinois. Officers arrived around 11:22 a.m. after a report of two deceased people.
Outside, in a vehicle parked in the driveway, they found 21-year-old Dantez T. Ford; inside the residence, they found Sean A. Johnson. Both had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis were activated to assist Cahokia Heights police. As the investigation unfolded, authorities identified a suspect: Kevin B. Lipsey. By June 11, 2022, Lipsey, age 32, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the killings, and his bond was set at $2,000,000.
Nearly two years later, a St. Clair County jury found Kevin B. Lipsey, then 34, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for the slayings of Sean A. Johnson and Dantez T. Ford. Reporting at the time noted that because two people were killed in the same event, Lipsey faced a mandatory life sentence, with sentencing to follow.
