In the small town of Nicholls, Georgia, a tragic and violent series of events unfolded on a December day, leaving a law enforcement officer and a young boy dead. Town Marshal Tom Holton, a 38-year-old male, was killed in the line of duty on Saturday, December 6, 1902. His death came as he attempted to apprehend an intoxicated man who had been terrorizing the citizens of Nicholls, walking the streets armed with a rifle.
