Tom R. Holton, a 38-year-old white male, served as the Town Marshal in Nicholls, Georgia. On December 6, 1902, he was tragically shot and killed while attempting to arrest an intoxicated man who was terrorizing citizens with a rifle. As Marshal Holton approached the suspect, he was shot through the heart.
