Marshal Eugene Cargell, a law enforcement officer from Cairo, Georgia, met a tragic end on August 27, 1907. He was shot and killed while leading a posse in pursuit of a murder suspect. The incident occurred near Tallahassee, Florida, where Marshal Cargell and his team had tracked down the suspect responsible for the murder of Grady County Sheriff D.W. (Doc) Tyus.
