Edward Hope 'Teddy' Smith, a 14-year-old African American boy, was reported missing on July 21, 1979, in Atlanta, Georgia. His body was discovered a week later, on July 28, 1979, by a woman searching for discarded bottles near Niskey Lake Road. Teddy had been shot with a .22-caliber weapon, and his body was found alongside another victim, 13-year-old Alfred Evans, who had been missing since July 25, 1979.
