In a tragic turn of events on a December afternoon in Marietta, Georgia, a 35-year-old woman named Thelma Vinhal was killed in a double murder-suicide. The incident, which also claimed the lives of two men, unfolded at the Ivy Ridge apartment complex.
On December 22, 2013, police responded to a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. reporting that three people had been shot. Upon arrival at the apartment on Bentley Road, officers discovered the bodies of Thelma Vinhal, her 30-year-old boyfriend Euclides Guinato-Bernardes, and her 45-year-old ex-boyfriend, Pericles Demoura.
According to the investigation and witness statements, Pericles Demoura had entered the apartment and shot Guinato-Bernardes. He then turned the gun on Vinhal, his ex-girlfriend, before taking his own life. The Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office was tasked with determining the official cause and manner of death for all three individuals. The case was investigated as a double murder-suicide, and as the perpetrator died at the scene, there were no subsequent arrests or trial.
