In a tragic turn of events stemming from a troubled relationship, 48-year-old John Malone, a white male, was killed in Lithia Springs, Georgia, on the morning of June 22, 2014. The incident unfolded at the J.B. Hunt trucking terminal on Sydney Court, where Malone was discovered having been shot multiple times. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene around 7 a.m.
Witnesses at the location provided a description of the suspect's vehicle, which allowed investigators to quickly locate it nearby. Inside the car, they found the body of a woman who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities identified her as Malone's girlfriend of approximately 18 months. Investigators learned that the couple had been experiencing recent difficulties in their relationship.
The investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. It is believed that the girlfriend shot and killed Malone at his workplace before driving a short distance away and taking her own life.
