In a tragic and senseless act of violence, Robert Bernard Moore, a 52-year-old male, was killed when a stray bullet struck him inside his own home. On the evening of June 13, 2015, Moore was in his apartment in College Park, a suburb of Atlanta, watching television with his family. Unbeknownst to them, a heated argument had erupted outside in the parking lot of the apartment complex on Roosevelt Highway.
The dispute, reportedly over a basketball game, escalated into a shootout involving several individuals.
As gunfire rang out, Moore’s last act was one of heroism, shouting for his family to get down and take cover. In the midst of the chaos, a bullet pierced through the wall of their apartment and struck Moore in the head. He died instantly at the scene, an innocent victim caught in the crossfire of a conflict he had no part in. The tragedy left his family, including his wife and children, devastated by the sudden and violent loss of a man they described as the loving patriarch of their close-knit family.
In the aftermath of the shooting, College Park police began an intensive investigation. They found at least 15 shell casings in the parking lot, indicating the severity of the gunfight. The investigation quickly led to the arrest of one of Moore's neighbors, Felerix Cofer, who was taken into custody on weapons charges. Authorities announced that they were actively searching for at least four other individuals believed to have been involved in the shootout that led to Robert Moore's untimely death.
