In the late afternoon of a Sunday in southwest Atlanta, a dispute between two men tragically escalated, leaving one of them dead. On November 15, 2015, 37-year-old Geoffrey Watson-McCoy, an African American male, was fatally shot just before 3 p.m. in the 400 block of Fairburn Road. The events leading to his death began with an argument earlier in the day with another man.
The altercation reportedly involved 26-year-old Tyrone Curry.
Following their initial disagreement, Curry allegedly left the scene only to return later with a shotgun. He is said to have fired a single shot, striking Watson-McCoy in the back. The wound proved to be fatal, and Watson-McCoy succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Friends and family remembered him as a kind-hearted individual and a good father.
After the shooting, the suspect, identified as Tyrone Curry, fled the area on foot. However, he was later apprehended by the Atlanta police. Following an interview with investigators, Curry was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Watson-McCoy's death. He was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail, where he was denied bond during his first court appearance. His next court date was scheduled for November 30, 2015.
