On the evening of January 6, 2016, 15-year-old Jaylon Maddox was walking with a 27-year-old friend, Justin Sellers, on Ember Drive in DeKalb County, Georgia, when a white car approached them. Inside the vehicle was Bruce Howard, who opened fire on the two pedestrians in what authorities described as a robbery attempt. Both Maddox and Sellers were struck multiple times. The gunshots shattered the night's quiet, and the car sped away, leaving the two young men lying on the side of the street.
