In the quiet community of Appling, Georgia, a day of unimaginable horror unfolded on Friday, April 22, 2016, forever changing the lives of one family. On that day, 30-year-old Trequilla Aisha Kelia Clark, a registered nurse, was tragically killed in a mass shooting. The promising life of this Greenbrier High School graduate, who had earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Augusta State University, was cut short in an act of violence that claimed four other members of her family.
The
perpetrator was identified as a 50-year-old man, a relative of the victims. His violent rampage spread across two locations in Appling, leaving a trail of devastation. In addition to Trequilla, the victims included 75-year-old Roosevelt Burns, 85-year-old Rheba Mae Dent, 59-year-old Lizzy Williams, and 62-year-old Shelly Williams. The tight-knit community was left reeling from the loss of five of its members in a single day.
Following the shootings, law enforcement launched a search for the suspect. The search concluded when the suspect was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death brought an end to the immediate manhunt but left behind a legacy of pain and unanswered questions for the surviving family members and the community at large.
