On the evening of April 7, 2011, a tragedy unfolded in Bladensburg, Maryland, that claimed the life of 33-year-old Shawnta Lysheema Coleman, a Black female from Alexandria, Virginia. Coleman was discovered shot in the rear of an apartment complex located in the 5600 block of Emerson Street. The scene was further marked by the poignant discovery of her 7-month-old infant, found unharmed in a nearby car seat. The child was subsequently turned over to the care of social services.
