In the summer of 2023, the life of 45-year-old Lakisha Wheeler was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 7th, police responded to a call about an unconscious person in the 7600 block of Labyrinth Road in Pikesville, Maryland. There, in the parking lot of Pikesville High School, they discovered Wheeler inside a car, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into her death quickly uncovered a history of domestic turmoil.
Suspicion fell upon 53-year-old Levi Feldman, the father of Wheeler's six-year-old son. Investigators learned that Wheeler had obtained a protective order against Feldman in February 2023. He had reportedly become jealous over her new relationship and had threatened to kill both her and her new boyfriend. Just weeks before the murder, on June 24, Feldman had violated that protective order, leading to a warrant for his arrest.
The events leading to Wheeler's death began to unfold on the morning of July 6th. Feldman contacted Wheeler, claiming his car had broken down on I-83 and that he needed tools from the Honda Accord she was driving. Agreeing to help, Wheeler left her home. She made a final call to her young son to check on him before she was supposed to go to work, but was not heard from again. Surveillance footage from Pikesville High School captured her car parking on the school's lot around 7:45 a.m. A short time later, a man identified as Feldman was seen exiting the passenger side of the vehicle and walking away. Wheeler's family reported her missing later that evening. Her phone, which detectives believe Feldman took after the murder, was last tracked to an intersection that corresponded with the path he had walked.
Levi Feldman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and gun-related offenses. The investigation was aided by clear footage from security cameras in the area. Following his trial, Feldman was found guilty of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm. In February 2025, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of the mother of his child.
