In the spring of 2017, a young man's life was tragically cut short in the parking lot of a grocery store in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. Twenty-three-year-old David Koran Gibbs was found in the back seat of a car on the afternoon of Thursday, April 13, 2017, with a fatal gunshot wound. The incident occurred at an Aldi located on Riverdale Road in Clayton County, an area near College Park.
Initial investigations by the Clayton County Police Department were hampered by a lack of immediate
suspects. Witnesses reported seeing an 'unknown number of males' inside the vehicle with Gibbs, possibly engaging in an altercation before the sound of gunfire pierced the afternoon air. Following the shooting, several men were seen fleeing the car after it crashed into a parked vehicle in the lot. Several casings were recovered from the scene as authorities began to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter.
Within a week of the shooting, investigators identified a primary suspect, Dayvonn 'D-Boy' Boyer, and issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of felony murder. Authorities considered Boyer to be armed and dangerous and believed he might be in the company of two other unidentified suspects. The investigation quickly led to the apprehension of two other men, Jarrell Moore and Marc Anthony Brione Bell, who were taken into custody on April 21, 2017. Both Moore and Bell also faced felony murder charges and were held in the Clayton County jail without bond.
The final suspect, Dayvonn Boyer, who was 33 at the time, was captured on Monday, May 1, 2017. The Clayton County Sheriff's Office stated that the murder was the result of a 'drug deal that went bad.' The arrest of Boyer brought a close to the search for the individuals believed to be responsible for the death of David Gibbs.
