On a spring morning in Colonial Heights, Virginia, the quiet of Roslyn Landing Park was broken by a grim discovery. On April 18, 2024, the body of 36-year-old Cynthia Chante’ Cint Solomon, a Black female from the nearby city of Hopewell, was found near the riverbank of the Appomattox River. An investigation by the Colonial Heights Police quickly determined that she had died from a gunshot wound, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Friends and family remembered Solomon, a mother of two daughters, as a woman with a "personality of gold" who lit up every room she entered. She was known for her love of cooking, doing hair, and caring for the children in her community.
The investigation into her death continued for several weeks, shaking the local community. Then, on May 8, 2024, the Colonial Heights Police Department announced a significant development in the case. They had identified a suspect and secured warrants for his arrest.
In coordination with the Atlanta Police Department, 57-year-old Raymont Tasco, also from Hopewell, was apprehended at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia. Tasco was charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken into custody without incident and is being held in the Clayton County Jail in Georgia, awaiting extradition back to Virginia to face the charges against him. The Colonial Heights Police expressed their gratitude to the Virginia State Police, the Hopewell Police Department, and the Richmond International Airport Police Department for their assistance in the investigation that led to Tasco's arrest.
