In the early morning hours of July 22, 2017, a life was tragically cut short in Columbus, Georgia. Donald Matthews, a 26-year-old African American male, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, a violent end to an evening that began with a dispute inside a local restaurant. Matthews, a Specialist in the U.S. Army stationed at nearby Fort Benning, was a human resources specialist who had served a deployment in Afghanistan.
