Shuyi Li, a 28-year-old Asian woman, was a promising graduate of Georgia Tech, having earned her Master's Degree in 2016. Originally from China's Guangdong Province, she had built a life in Smyrna, Georgia, where she worked at a business in nearby Canton. It was there she met Brian Marsh Semrinec, a 24-year-old U.S. Army veteran who had served in Afghanistan.
