On a Tuesday night in October 2017, a 25-year-old man named Alec Price from Decatur was shot and killed outside a popular bar on Edgewood Avenue in Atlanta. The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. outside the Mother Bar & Restaurant, where officers found Price unresponsive in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The shooting was preceded by an argument that began inside the establishment.

Alec Price and his brother, Britian, were at the bar mourning the passing of their grandmother, who had died earlier that day from cancer. While inside, Alec Price accidentally bumped into a man named Torry Bowman. This seemingly minor incident escalated when Bowman's friend, Terrell Goodman, confronted the Price brothers. Bowman and Goodman were ejected from the bar after a security guard noticed one of them was armed. They then waited outside for the Price brothers to leave.

As Alec and Britian Price exited the bar, Bowman fired a 9mm handgun at them four times. Alec was struck by three of the bullets, with one piercing his heart and killing him instantly. His brother was not injured. Approximately an hour and a quarter after the shooting, Bowman and Goodman were stopped by police for running a red light and were arrested on unrelated outstanding warrants. While in custody, Goodman reportedly bragged to another inmate about his and Bowman's involvement in the shooting.

Investigators were able to connect the 9mm handgun used in Price's murder to a previous armed robbery and aggravated assault that had occurred a week earlier. The victim of that crime identified Torry Bowman in a photo lineup. This connection led to Bowman and Goodman being charged with Alec Price's murder. Bowman, who had a history of 15 prior arrests, was convicted of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and other charges. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 15 years. Terrell Goodman was also implicated in the crime and was slated to stand trial at a later date.
