In the early morning hours of October 12, 2017, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of a neighborhood in Fort Gaines, Georgia. When police arrived at a residence on College Street, they discovered a grim scene. Inside, 29-year-old Charlie Smith, a Black/African American male, and another man, Manuelito Jackson, were found deceased. The incident was immediately treated as a double homicide, prompting the local police to call in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to lead the inquiry.
