On a January morning in 2019, the city of Atlanta was marked by its first homicides of the year. Thirty-year-old Frederick Parker and his childhood friend, Quinton Porter, who was 35, were discovered inside a maroon SUV, both having been fatally shot. The vehicle was located near the intersection of Lee and Whitehall streets in the southwest part of the city. When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene around 7:15 a.m., both men were pronounced dead.
