In the spring of 2019, what began as a seemingly amicable conversation outside a fast-food restaurant in Atlanta tragically ended in a double homicide that claimed the life of 37-year-old Denorris Clark, an African American male. On the evening of April 7th, Clark and another man, 43-year-old Steve Sanon, were engaged in conversation with individuals inside a black SUV in the parking lot of a Taco Bell on Ponce de Leon Avenue.
Suddenly, gunfire erupted from the vehicle, fatally wounding both men. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene, while Sanon was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The brazen nature of the shooting, which occurred in a busy area near downtown Atlanta, prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Atlanta Police Department. Detectives at the scene recovered a firearm, though it was not immediately clear if it was the weapon used in the killings. In the days following the shooting, authorities released surveillance images of three vehicles of interest that were seen near the crime scene: a dark-colored Dodge Durango, a gray Chevrolet Trailblazer, and a red or maroon Hyundai Tucson. However, a significant development later emerged, linking the murders of Clark and Sanon to a man named Mikel Gunn, a rapper known by the stage name 'ProblemChild5.' Ballistic evidence from two rifles recovered from a vehicle associated with Gunn was matched to the shooting on Ponce de Leon Avenue. Gunn, alleged to be a member of the 'Homixide' street gang, was also implicated in several other murders.
