Skyler B. McKenzie, a 36-year-old man, was fatally shot in South Fulton County, Georgia, on Monday, June 24, 2019, while giving a friend a ride home. The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. at the Avery Park Apartments.
McKenzie and another man were dropping off Shantrelle Quarterman at her apartment when her boyfriend, Jamal Williams, allegedly confronted them and began shooting. McKenzie was struck and killed at the scene.
Quarterman sustained a gunshot wound to her neck and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Williams was also wounded when someone in the car returned fire.
According to police, McKenzie and his friend were doing Quarterman a favor by driving her home after her initial plan to take an Uber fell through. A neighbor reported hearing the gunshots and a man encouraging McKenzie to 'wake up! You got a baby, man. You just had a baby.'
Following the shooting, Jamal Williams was identified by police as the suspected shooter. He was reported to be in stable condition after being wounded. The investigation into the triple shooting was ongoing, and at the time of the initial reports, no charges had been filed.
