In a tragic turn of events on a Friday evening in Braselton, Georgia, a dispute between two acquaintances culminated in the shooting death of 52-year-old William Halbman. The incident, which unfolded on July 26, 2019, at a residence on Georgia Highway 53, ended when the shooter himself notified authorities of the violence that had transpired.
According to reports from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, 62-year-old Allen Bredig placed a 911 call shortly before 5 p.m., admitting to
having shot Halbman during an argument that erupted after Halbman had come to his home. The exact nature of their disagreement remains unclear, but the confrontation escalated to a fatal point when Bredig produced a firearm. Emergency services transported Halbman to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be mortal, and he was pronounced dead.
Following his self-reporting of the shooting, Allen Bredig was taken into custody and booked into the Jackson County jail. He was subsequently charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with Halbman's death. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist the sheriff's office in processing the crime scene. Later, in September of the same year, a Jackson County grand jury indicted Allen Heinz Bredig on charges of murder and felony murder for the shooting. Reports indicate that Bredig remained in the Jackson County Jail without bond following the indictment.
