James Harold Walls, a 56-year-old Caucasian male, tragically lost his life on October 29, 2016, in a violent encounter at a Circle K gas station in Braselton, Georgia. The events leading to his death began to unfold in the early morning hours, stemming from a dispute that originated in the parking lot of a nearby Waffle House.
The situation escalated when Walls, accompanied by a woman later identified as Angela Nicole Baker, moved from the Waffle House to the Circle K at the intersection
of Highway 124 and Highway 211. While Walls was at the gas pumps, a vehicle that had also been at the Waffle House pulled up beside him. An argument ensued, and from within the car, a gunman fired a single shot, striking Walls in the chest.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Angela Baker, who had been inside the gas station, retrieved her purse from Walls' truck, made a phone call, and left the scene without contacting emergency services. This action quickly made her a person of interest in the investigation. Police were able to locate and arrest her the following day by tracking Walls' stolen cell phone. Her initial charges included tampering with evidence and obstruction.
The investigation soon revealed a more complex plot, leading to the arrests of four other individuals. The alleged shooter was identified as 19-year-old Antonio Ward Gee Jr. Authorities reported that the motive for the shooting was a drug deal that turned into a robbery. Gee had reportedly arranged to purchase two ounces of marijuana from Walls but then refused to pay, leading to the fatal confrontation. Gee was subsequently charged with felony murder.
In addition to Gee and Baker, three others were implicated in the crime. Christopher Sebastian Carneiro, the owner of the Honda Civic Gee was driving, was arrested and faced charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Travis Brady was accused of disposing of Walls' cell phone in Lake Lanier at Baker's request and was charged with tampering with evidence and theft by receiving. Finally, Angela Baker's mother, Paula Agan, was charged with obstruction and hindering the apprehension of a criminal for picking her daughter up from the crime scene.
