In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday in College Park, Georgia, a 25-year-old man, Kendrick Reeves, was fatally shot in the chest. The incident occurred on June 9, 2020, at an apartment complex located in the 3100 block of Godby Road. When College Park police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Reeves with a severe gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Initial
investigations into the shooting pointed towards three armed suspects who were reported to have been wearing face masks at the time of the incident. The case remained under active investigation as law enforcement officials worked to identify and locate the individuals responsible for Reeves's death.
A month after the shooting, a significant breakthrough was made in the case. On July 15, 2020, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the College Park Police Department, arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Kendrick Reeves. The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Falou Mbake Sylla. He was taken into custody at an apartment in northwest Atlanta.
During the arrest of Sylla, authorities also discovered a substantial amount of illegal substances within the apartment, including nearly 20 ounces of marijuana, THC edibles, heroin, crack cocaine, and ecstasy. In addition to the murder charge, Sylla also faced charges for possession of marijuana, theft by receiving, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Another man present in the apartment, 22-year-old Dominique Busha Benton, was also arrested and charged with multiple drug-related offenses, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, trafficking heroin, and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
